Hunter Trade College Announces 2018 HomeWorld Scholarship Recipients

July 23, 2018

HomeWorld and Hunter Trade College are pleased to announce the recipients of the second-annual HomeWorld Scholarship as Brae Wissink, Blake Young and Lachlan Grubb.

Based in Telarah, close to HomeWorld Thornton, Hunter Trade College provides young adults with the opportunity to study for the Higher School Certificate while commencing a trade qualification and accessing pathways into various trades, including building and construction. The school pairs the education with actual application in the workforce, for a hands-on experience for the students.

HomeWorld has partnered with Hunter Trade College for the past two years to offer students scholarships in recognition of their outstanding work and support them in their chosen career.

Brae Wissink, Blake Young and Lachlan Grubb are Year 12 students currently studying towards the CPC30211 Certificate III in Carpentry when they were awarded with the scholarships based on their outstanding performance and dedication towards their course.

Phil Jones, CEO of HomeWorld said he was delighted to recognise the efforts and talents of three local students and to help them in developing their careers in the building industry.

“At HomeWorld, we understand that the industry relies on providing opportunities for the next generation of local builders and trades. We are thrilled to be able to assist these students through that crucial first step towards landing their dream jobs. We also rely on the skills and talents of local trades, so investing in education and training is important to us,” said Jones.

Jones also commented on how important it is to support the next generation of tradesmen and builders, especially that of local roots that are so vital to businesses such as HomeWorld.

Hunter Trade College CEO, Mallory Gleeson recognised the importance of the collaboration, saying, “We value the opportunity to work with a respected industry player in the local housing industry and appreciate HomeWorld’s generosity in supporting young people who are eager to be part of the future construction workforce”.

The recipients of last year’s HomeWorld Scholarship recipients have this year gained invaluable experience through their experience at Hunter Trade College.

Bradley Hartland, a recipient of the 2017 HomeWorld Scholarship, is currently in Year 12 at the college, he is proud to report he has secured a school-based traineeship with UGM Engineers, through which he will complete his Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start).

Kaitlyn Doolan, who is the second recipient of the 2017 Scholarship, is currently studying a Diploma in Interior Design at TAFE while working in the Kitchen Design Centre at Bunnings. Kaitlyn considers her studies in Construction to be a crucial underpinning to her understanding of the design process and is looking forward to moving into that career path.

The HomeWorld Scholarship was first announced in 2016 to coincide with the opening of HomeWorld Thornton, which features 43 display homes from 14 of the Hunter and New South Wales’ leading building companies.
