The future of Leppington as a booming residential centre has been recognised with the development of 62-lot HomeWorld display village.
The start of construction of HomeWorld coincides with Leppington Town Centre identified as a priority precinct, earmarked for growth and revitalisation.
NSW Department of Planning and Environment Urban Renewal executive director Brendan O’Brien said the priority precinct strategy would fast-track the construction of homes close to transport and services.
“As one of the major gateways to the Western Sydney Airport, Leppington is set to become a prominent hub for residential and business activities,” he said.
HomeWorld chief executive officer Phil Jones was eager to see the region thrive.
“We’re excited that HomeWorld Leppington is underway and look forward to it becoming the go-to destination for people in south west Sydney and the greater Sydney region who are considering building a new home,” he said.
“We like to think we are part of the local community. There will definitely be a Camden-flavour to the new village.
“The south west is where Sydney is heading and it is certainly the future of detached housing.”
Mr Jones said the company would continue to invest in the region for the next decade, as it begins a shift away from the traditional four-bedroom home.
“The landscape and household structure is changing,” he said.
“Once open, the new village will offer new home buyers the chance to step inside a large range of single, double storey homes and duplexes.
It will also allow them to speak directly with leading competitive home builders about all of their new home building options, seven days a week.”
Mr O’Brien said the planning department was working closely with councils, state agencies and residents to solve problems and build communities that make sure people of all ages have a variety of housing choice close to transport, shops and jobs and with sufficient open space.”
“These new priority precincts will provide the necessary boost to housing supply by accelerating the rezoning process to allow for more modern, diverse housing developments to be built.”
A drop-in information session to find out about the planning process for Leppington will be held at Greenway Park Community Centre, Greenway Drive, Greenway Park, on Wednesday, July 26, from 5-8pm.
The community is encouraged to participate in a survey at the event or online at planning.nsw.gov.au.
