Rajan & Jalini Wijey are proud to call themselves homeowners in their beloved suburb of Strathfield.
Their dream of owning a new home in the suburb they have grown so fond of is becoming a reality thanks to the knockdown and rebuild approach.
“We found an old fibro cottage for sale within walking distance of where we were living at the time. Straight away we knew it was our opportunity to take the step into home-ownership.
“The old home was poorly constructed with little structural integrity and in a dilapidated condition. It quickly became apparent that it would have been more costly to renovate than to knock it down and build a new home.
“And, by building a new home we were able to alter the design – achieving a home that is ideally suited to our needs and lifestyle,” Rajan said.
The Wijey’s choice of builder and home design was guided by the narrow proportions of their block. They went to the HomeWorld Display Village and looked at many homes and builders who specialise in narrow blocks. After reducing the field to a choice of five builders, the Wijey’s chose to build the Michigan by Bellmarch Homes.
“We decided on Bellmarch Homes as they are experienced in the design and construction of homes on narrow blocks.
“The style and design of their display homes appealed to us, and you could see the quality workmanship. We couldn’t be happier with our decision to build with Bellmarch Homes,” said Rajan.
The Wijey’s built the Michigan, and in a demonstration of the builder’s flexibility altered the floor plans to better suit their needs. Instead of a two car garage, they downsized to a single and created a formal dining room out of the extra space. They also reduced the bedrooms from four to three, allowing the main bedroom and ensuite to be increased in size.
The result is a two-storey home with three bedrooms, formal lounge and dining rooms, open plan family and kitchen area, upstairs sitting room and large balcony.
“We love the home in its entirety, however I do like the formal dining and living rooms as they have a particular appeal. We also incorporated face brick in a pink/redish colour for a touch of difference in the living room,” added Rajan.
At HomeWorld, the builders have the experience and the skills to successfully replace an old home with a brand new one.
There are over 120 homes by the industry’s top builders at the HomeWorld Display Village giving homebuyers a great variety of single, two-storey and split-level homes to choose from.
