Property investors are returning to the property market according to latest data from St. George Bank. According to the bank the value of investor finance rose 3.0% in March, easily reversing the 0.8% decline seen in February. Investor housing finance has now risen 24% for the year.

"Property investors are obviously taking advantage of the increase in property prices and strong rental demand. The volatility of the share market is also a factor that investors might be factoring in to their investment plans," said HomeWorld Display Village Chief, Frank Death.

"Many people already have considerable investments in the share market through their superannuation and investment in property is a good way to spread their investment risk as well as being a direct investment over which they have full control.

"With property values in many areas increasing it means that some households have more equity in the family home to borrow against for their finance. It is a great way to supplement superannuation benefits and there is negative gearing providing taxation benefits," said Frank Death.

"We need property investment to take the pressure of rents, as more people compete for available rental properties so that there is sufficient suitable rental accommodation for those who need to rent.

"Property investors can have good returns on their property investment as well as the likelihood of good capital gains," said Frank Death.
